Community Conduct

(For all ABC classes, rehearsals, events, and online spaces)

A Ballet Circle (ABC) is a community-centered, adult ballet club built on kindness, inclusivity, and shared joy in dance. These rules help ensure that every dancer (regardless of level, background, or identity) feels safe, respected, and welcome.

By participating in any ABC activity or space, dancers agree to the following:

1. Community Values & Expectations

ABC is a performance-based ballet club, but not a competitive studio. We value:

  • Kindness over comparison

  • Growth over perfection

  • Collaboration over hierarchy

All dancers agree to uphold a supportive environment where everyone feels comfortable participating at their own pace and level.

2. Respectful Communication & Conduct

To maintain a healthy community space, dancers agree to:

  • Treat instructors, rehearsal managers, and peers with respect and patience.

  • Avoid comments or behaviors that may come across as belittling, overly critical, or self-aggrandizing (e.g., repeatedly stating one’s superiority or skill level).

  • Refrain from any behavior that could make others uncomfortable, including unsolicited personal comments, excessive praise, or persistent attention toward specific individuals.

  • Accept feedback from ABC leadership when communication or behavior needs adjustment.

Harassment of any kind — verbal, physical, digital, sexual, or social — is strictly prohibited. This includes repeated unwanted contact, inappropriate comments, or behavior that creates discomfort for others.

ABC has a zero tolerance harassment policy and reserves the right to intervene, set boundaries, or remove a participant from activities if conduct repeatedly violates community expectations.

3. Social Media & Messaging Policy

ABC maintains a positive online presence and expects dancers to engage respectfully across all digital platforms.

A. Social Media Etiquette

Dancers agree to:

  • Avoid excessive commenting on ABC posts or on other dancers’ posts related to ABC.

  • Refrain from spamming, posting repetitive messages, or dominating comment threads.

  • Not use ABC’s platforms to promote personal services (e.g., no DMing dancers to offer private lessons, coaching, or unsolicited advice).

B. Direct Messaging Boundaries

Dancers agree to:

  • Avoid sending repeated or unsolicited private messages to other dancers.

  • Respect when someone does not respond or wishes to disengage.

  • Keep communication related to ABC activities appropriate, brief, and non-intrusive.

C. WhatsApp Group Policy

  • Participation in any ABC-related WhatsApp groups is completely voluntary.

  • Dancers may join, mute, or leave the chat at any time without penalty.

  • The chats are intended for ABC updates, rehearsal information, and other dance-related or general supportive community conversation (not personal promotion or excessive messaging).

4. Voluntary Participation in ABC Activities

  • All ABC offerings — classes, rehearsals, photoshoots, community events, and performances — are voluntary.

  • Dancers may choose to participate or decline any activity without judgment or pressure.

  • ABC is not liable for personal decisions made outside official ABC activities.

5. Safety, Injury, & Liability

  • Dance involves physical activity and carries natural risk.

  • Dancers agree to listen to their bodies, modify movements as needed, and communicate discomfort or limitations.

  • ABC aims to always provide a safe environment to attempt any dance-related excercises but is not liable for injuries sustained during classes, rehearsals, events, or performances, except in cases of gross negligence.

  • Dancers agree to follow all safety instructions from instructors and rehearsal managers.

6. Privacy & Confidentiality

  • Personal information shared within ABC spaces — whether in class, rehearsal, or digital communication — must remain confidential.

  • Dancers agree not to share private conversations, screenshots, or personal details about other members without consent.

7. Anti-Harassment & Kind Space Policy

ABC is committed to maintaining a space free from discrimination, harassment, and intimidation.

Dancers agree to:

  • Foster kindness, compassion, and respect for all identities, including gender, race, age, body type, ability, sexual orientation, and cultural background.

  • Avoid any behavior that targets, isolates, or repeatedly pressures another dancer.

  • Accept that ABC leadership may intervene if behavior creates discomfort for others — even if the dancer did not intend harm.

  • Repeated violations may result in removal from rehearsals, performances, or ABC activities.

Repeated violations may result in removal from rehearsals, performances, chats, or ABC related activities.

8. Performance & Rehearsal Conduct

For dancers participating in performances:

  • Consistent attendance is essential for safety, spacing, and ensemble cohesion. Please communicate any absences or schedule conflicts before rehearsals whenever possible.

  • Dancers agree to arrive on time for all call times, fittings, and run‑throughs. Absences or lateness can be discussed on a case‑by‑case basis with ABC leadership.

  • Dancers are expected to participate fully, support peers, and maintain a positive, collaborative attitude during rehearsals.

  • ABC will share all performance expectations (including call times, costume notes, tech details, etc.) clearly and with reasonable notice.

9. Respect for Dress Code & Studio Spaces

ABC encourages dancers to wear attire that feels comfortable and safe while remaining appropriate for a shared dance environment.

All dancers agree to respect the dress expectations set for classes, rehearsals, photoshoots, performances, and other activities. When specific attire is requested (such as color-coordination for photoshoots or performance‑related guidelines), dancers will make reasonable efforts to follow these instructions. Dancers understand that participation in these activities are always voluntary.

ABC also asks all participants to treat our rented studio spaces with care and respect.

This includes:

  • Keeping belongings organized and out of walkways

  • Not adjusting studio equipment without permission

  • Maintaining cleanliness and leaving the space as we found it

  • Following all posted studio rules and staff instructions

Respecting both dress guidelines and studio spaces helps ensure a safe, professional, and welcoming environment for everyone.

10. Amendments & Agreement

ABC may update these rules as needed. Any changes will be communicated in writing. By participating in ABC activities, I confirm that I am 18 years of age or older and agree to follow the ABC Club Rules & Community Conduct Agreement.

With any questions regarding the community conduct agreement, please email our club manager jayson.magee@gmail.com.
